Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the safety of all employees for whom they are responsible through active engagement in safety activities and provides clear, consistent communication of safe work expectations.
  • Supports and investigates situations in which line/equipment stoppage occurs due to perceived imminent safety risk.
  • Completes responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures, and applicable laws.
  • Actively leads and drives Risk Assessment, Behavioral Safety Observation, and Front-Line Leader safety programs to eliminate/reduce environmental, health and safety risks and to meet identified plant targets.
  • Lead all required meetings with safety (i.e. Pre-Shift, Department, Change Management, General Communication, Monthly Shift, etc.)
  • Completes incident investigations, root cause analysis and implements corrective actions accordingly in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Ensures the proper training and development of all assigned employees for whom they are responsible.
  • Sets goals for their organizational unit, achieves goals and ensures that all employees understand and work toward achieving goals.
  • Motivate and coach employees through good communication and frequent performance feedback. Identifies and coordinates additional training as needed.
  • Responding to any emergency or potential emergency.
  • Ensures safety risks are identified and eliminated from changes to the equipment and processes by managing the Management of Change Process in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Security diligence, including maintaining control of personal key cards, preventing unauthorized entry to the facility by non-Berry employees, and proper maintenance/security of Berry information and equipment with your direct responsibility.
  • Constant vigilance and participation in Safety, Food Safety and Quality practices and procedures.
  • Identify and record problems relating to product, process and quality system. Observe all Safety precautions, Food Safety requirements and plant rules to prevent injury to self or others and to prevent loss of material or damage to equipment.
  • Follow and wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain a good housekeeping and 5S.
  • Develop, implement and manage safety programs, policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the maintenance of OSHA record keeping reports.
  • Oversee Safety/First Aid teams.
  • Conduct, Manage, and Report Weekly Safety/GMP Audits including all findings and corrective actions.
  • Identify at risk behaviors /conditions within the plant and implement corrective measures.
  • Investigate all incidents and property losses.
  • Conduct Safety training at monthly plant meetings.
  • Organize and oversee all OSHA/EPA/DOT required training (i.e. fork truck, lockout, SPCC).
  • Provide New Hire Safety orientation to all new team members.
  • Assist in Plant DOT driver program.
  • Manage and oversee Fire Safety compliance program to ensure compliance with required inspection dates for all fire safety systems.
  • Implement, train, and manage corporate required safety programs (Risk Assessment, Front Line Leader, Behavioral Observation, etc.) to ensure they meet expected timeline and goals.
  • Organize and maintain GHS/SDS.
  • Assist in purchasing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Assist with the administration of the workers compensation program.
  • Manage all Federal, State and Local environmental permits and ensure compliance.
  • Serve as the lead person for all environmental, safety and insurance audits and inspections performed by a third-party entity.
  • Identify and budget for safety capital expenditure items and annual safety budget.
  • Manage the Contractor safety program and ensure compliance.
  • Manage all property/casualty claims.
  • Delegate and supervise work assignments to Supervisors, Leads, Operators and Technicians
  • Review and maintain attendance records and timekeeping systems.
  • Performs scheduled evaluations on all employees.
  • Investigate all employee complaints and escalate to HR when appropriate.
  • Communicate summary of daily operations to Department and Plant Managers.
  • Monitor and investigate any non-conformance or CIO issues daily.
  • Review machine priorities, production needs, placement of operators and implement changes when necessary
  • Create and monitor all production documents.
  • Process and enter scrap and repro usage in Scrap Log and compile for monthly reports.
  • Review production information for all machines in Web-EFF database.
  • Maintains Training Matrix for Pre-Shift and Daily Safety meetings
  • Back up for scheduler position
  • Perform other duties established by the plant manager.
